Dear Friends and Family,
Port Moselle Marina, Noumea, New Caledonia |
Just a quick note to let you know that we've arrived safely. We crossed the pass through the barrier reef at the SE corner of New Caledonia at 6 this morning and we're now tied up at the marina in Noumea. It was wonderful to smell all the land smells again as we approached.
Our thanks to all of you who took the time to write to us. When we're out in the middle of the ocean, it's nice to know there are other people out there somewhere. We only saw 2 other boats on this trip - a freighter and another cruising sailboat.
Stats for this trip: 700 nautical miles sailed in almost exactly 5 days, for a fairly slow average speed of 5.6 knots. Maximum speed of 10.9 knots (4 Oct) but generally a pretty calm passage, which is how we like them! |
